Boy saved by dog in cougar attack

BOSTON BAR (NEWS1130) – RCMP and a Golden Retriever are being credited with saving an 11-year-old boy from a cougar attack in Boston Bar.

Police say the cat was advancing on an 11-year-old boy in the family’s backyard when the family’s Golden Retriever stepped in and took the brunt of the attack.

Sergeant Peter Thiessen says a Mountie was on scene within a minute, shooting and killing the cougar. “Could have just as easily turned on the officer, or gone and attacked the boy, so there was a need for some quick response. The officer did what was required and basically you have the family pet saving the boy, and then you have an officer attending saving the dog and the boy.”

The dog is okay, with just a few minor injuries.
