Team Canada take on the Swiss at the World Juniors in Saskatoon

SASKATOON (NEWS1130) – It’s a game that will have Canadians glued to their TV sets this afternoon.  As the country is buzzing with Team Canada taking on the Swiss during semi-final action at the World Junior Championship.  The two teams met during the preliminary round on December 28th, with Team Canada thumping Switzerland 6-0.

Jason Benner from the News1130 Sports Centre explains what the red white machine has to do to move on to the finals.  “On paper this game looks like a joke, but the Swiss are for real after surprising the Russians in overtime.  Canada can’t afford to get ahead of themselves they have to play this game one shift at a time.  Discipline is also big for the home team, they have to stay out of the penalty box.”  Benner adds we also have to check our attitudes and egos at the door and not let five gold medals get to our heads.

The last time Canada met the Swiss in medal-round action of the World Juniors was in 2002 with Canada blanking them 4-0 in the semi-finals.

A win Sunday would land Canada in the finals where it’ll have a chance to capture its sixth straight gold medal.  The puck drops at 2 p.m.
