DAWSON CREEK (NEWS1130) – RCMP have arrested a man in Alberta in connection with the 15-month investigation into a series of bombings near an EnCana pipeline in Dawson Creek.  RCMP Sgt Tim Shields won’t name the suspect in the EnCana pipeline bombings until a formal charge is laid, but there are reports that Weibo Ludwig is the man in custody. “We still have a long way to go, we still have not heard yet if crown council is going to be approving a criminal charge”. Ludwig’s lawyer confirms his client is the suspect and will be charged.

Mounties are searching Ludwig’s property in Hythe, a small town southeast of Dawson Creek, looking for any evidence related to the bombings. Sgt Shields says the search has been extensive. “There is a very unusual living arrangement on this farm, there are about 51 people who live there including 29 young people so it is a small community”.

Shields says there have been a number of persons of interest since the bombings started, but it wasn’t until last fall that enough evidence was available to support a charge. Ludwig was convicted in connection with similar explosions in Alberta in the late 90′s.

The Calgary-based oil and gas giant announced in July it was doubling its reward to one million dollars for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the bomber.
