Local filmmaker completes ‘Chasing the Dream’

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A B.C. filmmaker has captured the last decade of build up to the 2010 Olympic Games from the winning of the bid, to the passing of Jack Poole. All of it can be seen in ‘Chasing the Dream.’

George Orr got the idea for the documentary when chatter about a possible Vancouver Olympic bid started. Along the way he’s witnessed ups and downs, protests and triumphs, the lighting of the Olympic Flame and the death of the man credited with bringing the Games to Vancouver – Jack Poole.

But Orr says the idea behind the film wasn’t to take a political stance. “I tried to do something that will be timeless. I tried to produce something that you can pull off the shelf in ten years, look at it and go ‘oh right, that’s what happened.’ Not the politics, not the propaganda, not the advocacy. This is the story of a changed decade in B.C.”

The title ‘Chasing the Dream’ refers to the visions both supporters and opponents had about how B.C. would change or be portrayed in light of the Games. The film can be seen Monday evening at District 319 Theatre on Main Street. There is no fee for admission but a donation to the food bank is appreciated.
