Surrey Six case could get complicated

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – There are serious concerns over the future of the Surrey Six case.  It comes after an investigator looking into the killings was put on desk duty for having a relationship with a witness in the case.  Our legal analyst is talking about what this could mean.

Michael Shapray says the big issue will be at disclosure, when the Crown has to disclose to defense all of its evidence.  “If the officer was having an inappropriate personal relationship with this witness, he/she wouldn’t have been recording all of the communications and conversations in the ordinary course of their duties with that witness, so how will that information be provided to the defense, if it can be provided at all.”

Shapray says just the perception a police officer would be involved in a relationship with a witness is completely inappropriate.  The case itself goes back to a gang hit in Surrey that saw six people killed, including two men.  Five people including Jamie Bacon are up on charges including murder.
