Dress rehearsal for Opening Ceremonies, and Vancouver drivers

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – One more Olympic road closure and a little less mystery.  We’re reminding you the Cambie Street Bridge is now off-limits, all for the flawless execution of the opening ceremonies.

The Cambie Street Bridge northbound was closed down at noon, until midnight.  As of 1 pm there was traffic still moving southbound, but the city says that is just temporary as they phase in road closures leaving the downtown.  You can expect the same for Friday. There are thousands of stage hands, performers and volunteers to organize for the Opening Ceremonies. Closing the bridge is a key part of the plan.

Unfortunately for organizers, they’ve had to entrust their secrets to thousands and there have been inevitable leaks.  We still don’t know who the final torch bearer is or how the final cauldron, the first ever indoor one, will be lit.

The rumours include a performance by Sarah McLachlan and acrobats dressed like lumberjacks that pop in and out of trap doors. Even the seasons are expected to change in B.C. Place – leaves and even snow could start falling.

As the official radio station of the 2010 Winter Games, News1130 will bring you the Opening Ceremonies live at 6:00pm on Friday night and we’ll have Kim Seale in Airborne Traffic before and after the event.
