Olympic Torch travels through North Shore today

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – In the final days of the torch relay, we’re following the flame across the North Shore this morning.  It arrived in Horseshoe Bay from Bowen Island early this morning, with hundreds of people showing up to take in the party and cheer on the runners.

Roads along the torch path are lined in red and white. One of those torch bearers, Russ Meszaros, is thrilled to be taking part this morning, “I’m a very proud Canadian and we all know we’re living in the greatest country in the world and it makes me very proud to be part of this country.”

The torch was blessed by the Squamish Nation this morning and then travelled by canoe to Cates Park in North Vancouver. It scales Grouse Mountain via skyride, finishing in West Vancouver for a big party.  Tomorrow the torch heads through Burnaby and Coquitlam before ending up in Vancouver in advance of Friday’s Opening Ceremonies. You can follow the torch route on-line via the VANOC website.

As the Official radio station of the 2010 winter games, News1130 will bring you the Opening Ceremonies live at 6:00 on Friday night and we’ll have Kim Seale in Airborne Traffic before and after the event.
