Pavilions offer up varied free entertainment

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canadian Olympic pavilion has drawn some criticism, but many regions of the country have stepped up for their own houses.  There are also plenty of International pavilions to visit as well.

Maritime hospitality will greet you at Atlantic Canada House on Granville Island. They’ll have tastings of lobster, mussels, scallops and other seafood with the music of top indie bands like Hey Rosetta!, Wintersleep and the Trews – all at no charge.

If free concerts are your style, then Ontario House should be another pavilion on your to-do list.  Bedouin Soundclash, Keshia Chante, and Great Lake Swimmers are among the nightly acts. Not to be outdone in the food department, the house has an extensive, but not free, menu with mouthwatering offerings like mini burgers with Balderson Smoked Cheddar and Conestoga Bacon or King Cole Duck Shepherd’s Pie.

At 50,000 square feet, the 10th Olympic Holland Heineken House is a huge draw at Richmond’s O-Zone.  From HD screens broadcasting the Games, to the inevitable beer and orange gear, it is a free party zone – though only the Dutch get to skip the line.

In an epic move, the Russians have taken over Telus World of Science for Sochi House.  There will likely be a fair bit of Vodka, as well as traditional cuisine, and films shown on the massive Omnimax screen. You also have a chance to take part in hockey challenge games with famous NHL players like ex-Canuck Pavel Bure. It’s also free but if you have a Russian passport, you get preferential treatment.
