Famous faces bring the torch home to Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After more than a hundred days the torch has made its way back to Downtown Vancouver on the final day of the relay.  California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is among several celebs who touched the flame as the relay toured Stanley Park.  A couple of celeb dads took up the flame as well, both Walter Gretzky and Rolly Fox carried the torch this morning.

A string of local sports heroes carried it into Granville Island.  Soccer legend Bob Lenarduzzi handed the flame off to former BC Lion Lui Passaglia almost right after former Canuck Stan Smyl ran with it.  Passaglia says he had some jangled nerves about his run.  “I dreamt that I was going to make it without any mishaps, so I don’t know if I’m jinxing myself or not, but I’m ready to go, so when Bobby gets here, let the run happen.”

Everything went off without a hitch.  Lenarduzzi says running with the torch is up there with his many accomplishments in the soccer world. “There’s a galvanizing of people in this province, people across the country and it’s actually very emotional.”

Other B.C. sport legends like former Vancouver Canucks captain Trevor Linden and Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash carried the torch yesterday.
