Don Cherry weighs in on the Canada-Russia matchup

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – What does Canada need to do to beat the Russians?  We’re getting an earful about today’s big match-up from hockey’s loudest commentator, Don Cherry.

The man they call Grapes is never one to waste time getting to the point. “We’re gonna beat ’em tonight, I guarantee it!”

The best-dressed man in sports broadcasting says the key to victory for Canada is getting past what he calls Russia’s “suspect defense” as well as to cut down on the fancy stuff at the net.

“I would dump it in a little more.  I wouldn’t try the Harlem Globetrotters like we’ve been doing, I’ll tell you that. Not to bring anything negative into it and everything but I still don’t understand that.  What a dumb move that was!”

Canada also has to fight history here too.  Our men haven’t beaten Russia in Olympic hockey since an 8-5 victory over the-then Soviet Union in 1960 at Squaw Valley.

The game is at 4:30p.m. You can catch all the action on our Olympic partner, 104.9 FUN FM, starting at 4:00p.m.
