VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We partied hard… maybe a little too hard. Turns out visits to the emergency room spiked during the Olympics.
Drunkeness, overdoses, falls and fights helped swamp ERs, with VGH, St. Paul’s, Mt. St. Joseph and Lions Gate all seeing hundreds more patients than usual through February.
Dr Patricia Daly with Vancouver Coastal Helath tells the Vancouver Sun that the mild, west coast weather may have played a part with more people coming downtown to celebrate than is usual at other Winter Games… she uses the term festive drinking! VGH alone saw as many emergency patients during the Olympics as it did last November during the peak of the Swine Flu pandemic.
