Call off the search: Sidney Crosby’s stick and glove now located

By

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Sidney Crosby’s missing stick and glove from the gold medal game at the Vancouver Olympics have been located…and Hockey Canada now confirms they were not stolen.

Hockey Canada says Crosby’s stick was mistakenly placed in a shipment bound for the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in Russia, but it ended up being intercepted in Toronto.  One of his gloves was put in Patrice Bergeron’s equipment bag…which was beside Crosby’s bag in the Team Canada locker room.

The items were misplaced in the chaos following Crosby’s overtime goal in the gold-medal game.

An investigation into the missing gear included police in the Lower Mainland following up on several tips.  The News1130 newsroom also followed up on leads that turned out to be false.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is hoping to add the gold medal gear to its collection, but that will be up to Crosby himself.   The stick and/or glove would help to complete the Hall’s Olympic collection, which already includes Crosby’s pants, Roberto Luongo’s socks, Jarome Iginla’s stick, the net that Crosby’s ‘golden goal’ was scored into, and the Canadian flag on the ice surface.

Kelly Masse with the Hockey Hall of Fame says everyone was relieved to hear the news that Crosby’s stick was found.  “It went through our offices like fire. Just thrilled to have those items found…just our wish and our hope that they find their way here for our guests to be able to look at and remember what a great moment it was for hockey history.”
