The ‘golden puck’ heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The most important memento from the 2010 Games will be kept in Toronto.  The Hockey Hall of Fame is the permanent guardian of the men’s hockey gold medal game-winning puck.

It took a bit of a search to find what’s being called the most famous six ounces of rubber, but the International Ice Hockey Federation has recovered the puck used by Sidney Crosby to score the overtime winner that brought Canada its 14th gold of the 2010 Games.

IIHF President René Fasel says while the Hockey Hall of Fame is in possession of the puck, it belongs to everyone. “I would say these articles, they belong to the fans and they can watch them, these articles, the gloves and the stick and the puck in the Hockey Hall of Fame.”

The puck will be available to other organizations which want to bring it out for display. That will give hockey fans around the country a chance to see a piece of hockey history. Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson says that’s the way it should be. “We want to share it with everyone that loves the Games around the world, but especially the Canadians.”

Four other gold medal game pucks are being auctioned off with the rest of the memorabilia on VANOC’s website. Those are expected to go for thousands of dollars.
