Twitter allows us to watch TV with hundreds of our online friends

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For many, watching TV is becoming increasingly a social activity.. or at least a social-media activity.  The discussion of shows and televised events has become real-time, online.

From the Oscars to the Olympics, websites like Twitter and Facebook allow viewers to discuss shows while simultaneously watching them.  In fact, whereas once the Internet was thought to be killing TV, it now engages viewers.

According to one webtracker, TV broadcasters’ websites have seen a boost of traffic by 24 per cent from just Facebook and Twitter alone.

Getting further information about a purple wearing woman who Kanyed a documentarian’s speech, or the results of Canadians at the Olympics has become immediate as followers and friends offer up questions and answers.

Our wit also gets a workout, turning many of us into online comedians to be re-tweeted to our friends.
