VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The streetcar line from Olympic Village to Granville Island is having its final runs today. The Bombardier demonstration train is heading back to Brussels, where it was loaned from.
The people who’ve been lobbying for similar transportation to the Fraser Valley say it’s a system worth investing in. Paul Gieselman with Rail for the Valley says the trains were a hit. “Basically the Olympic line pretty much showcases what we are asking for south Fraser River, the Bombarider car, the same experience.” Gielselman adds the street car illustrates what could exist between the Fraser Valley all the way to Chilliwack at a relatively low cost. A week ago, the train ridership reached half a million, since starting up January 21st.
