Charter airline Skyservice ceases operations

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Skyservice has confirmed the rumour. The charter airline has shut down and a receiver has been appointed by the courts in Ontario.

All flights into and out of Canada have been scuttled for April. The company says in a statement that it will work with the receiver to make sure passenger issues are resolved as soon as possible.

Jonathan Carroll with I-Travel2000.com tells News1130 travellers who have already booked will get to fly.  “The information that we received from the various tour operators that work with Skyservice is, all passengers will be re-protected on the flights that they’re travelling to their destination, or returning from their destination.”

Skyservice had operated flights for Sunquest and Signature Vacations, but as Carroll said, those companies will make alternate arrangements.  A total of 860 workers are also impacted by Skyservice shutting down operations.  The company says the action was needed because of high debts and competitive changes in the vacation tour market.
