A new downtown library is one step closer to reality.
Halifax Regional Council has approved a funding plan for the $55 million building which will be erected at the corner of Spring Garden and Queen.
The province and Ottawa will chip in $31.3 million while HRM is on the hook for the remaining $23.7 million.
The only councillor who voted against the library was Dartmouth’s Gloria McCluskey, who thinks $55 million is a little too pricey.
The municipality will get the money from various sources, including the sale of some adjacent HRM properties.
The new library is set to open in 2014.
