ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Abbotsford Police are recommending numerous charges–including forcible confinement–against a man who led them on a lengthy chase in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon. Police say the 21 year old driver refused to let two teenage girls out of the stolen Honda Civic.
The chase started after the man refused to stop for police on McCallum Road near Highway One, and ended just south of the Golden Ears Bridge, when the driver ran from police and was then arrested. Officers observed one of the girls in the back seat who appeared to be in distress and could be seen mouthing the words “help” while waving her arms. Police used a spike belt to puncture one of the front tires.
The driver, who remains in hospital with injuries, is well known to police but his name isn’t being released until he makes a court appearance. Police say the man knew the two girls, who are also known to police. The car was reported stolen earlier in the day from an Abbotsford auto repair shop. The girls were not injured.
