VPD investigate death of second baby at East Vancouver home

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For the second time in less than a year, Vancouver Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby at an East Vancouver home.  No remains have been found but police say a baby boy was found dead at the same home last year.

VPD say an infant was apparently born at the home on Charles Street, near Nanaimo Street, in early March but they received a tip on March 29th that no one had seen the baby in some time.  Constable Jana McGuinness says the case is being treated as a homicide. “We believe the baby was born back in the first week of March. We’re nearly at a month now. The child has not been seen and investigators have enough information currently to believe the child is no longer alive.”

The mother has been interviewed but no charges have been laid. Police add for now the forensic investigation is focused on the home.

It isn’t the first time they’ve dealt with the death of a baby at the same home.  In April 2009, Vancouver Police were called to the same home to investigate the suspicious death of an infant boy. That death was only treated as suspicious and the investigation continues, but no one has been charged.
