April fees day from the government

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Wish we could tell you this was an April Fool’s prank. There’s a long list of things you’ll pay more for as of today.

Why does the government always do this April 1st? The jokes are just too easy. But seriously, fees are going up on everything from your utility bills to B.C. Ferries to camping.

The average Hydro bill is going up seven bucks per month, Terasen five dollars, a B.C. Ferries ticket to Vancouver Island $1.75, a monthly Translink pass up nine dollars, and camping in a provincial park – up 6 bucks.

Going green with an EnergyStar appliance? You are no longer exempt from paying the PST.

So, if you’re catching the bus to go camping for the weekend on the Island, and you pre-chill your beer in a new high-efficiency fridge in your gas-heated home, it could cost you an extra $106.50 this month.
(Based on a return trip, a two-night weekend and a $1000 fridge)
