Ferndale, Washington gives green light to big box retailers

FERNDALE, WASH (NEWS1130) – The city of Ferndale, Washington, is giving the green light to a ‘big box store zone’, something that may appeal to Canadian shoppers looking to take advantage of our high dollar.

Ferndale–a ten minute drive down the I-5 from the Peace Arch crossing–has approved the development, that would up to 100 thousand square feet of retail space, just off the freeway.

Jori Burnett with the City of Ferndale says it’s expected the development would attract big name tenants like Wal-Mart, reducing the drive down to Bellingham.  “It’s closer to the Canadian border than either Bellingham or Burlington.  In addition, the property itself is adjacent to Interstate Five so the ease of access is so much greater”
