Get rid of e-waste this Earth Day

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Three Vancouver schools are teaming up to battle e-waste. We’re looking at where you can get rid of your old electronics starting at 8:30 this morning.

The Tech It Away program is hoping to divert some of the 270,000 tonnes of e-waste that ends up in Canadian landfills each year.

So today, people can take used, broken or unwanted personal electronics to Eric Hamber, Killarney, and Sir Charles Tupper Secondary schools where they will be collected for free and safe recycling. Volunteers will be out so that you can just drive through to drop off.

The school that collects the most will receive $2,000 to fund a student-led environmental initiative, in addition to grant money in honour of the environmental effort.

The students are aiming to beat the mark of 30 tonnes of e-waste that was set last year.
