Many missing out on tax breaks this season

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you like paying too much in taxes, keep it up.  John Waters with BMO Nesbitt Burns says too many of us aren’t keeping up with tax changes and its costing us money especially now at tax time.

“If you’re preparing your tax return, people view it more as a chore, it’s not something that they look forward to, it’s something that they will procrastinate and leave it until the 11th hour.”

However, Waters admits he’s not surprised. “People find it confusing and it is complicated and the rules are always changing.  It’s just not something that [people] want to spend that much time on. It’s a bit like homework, I suppose.

Waters says even people who get someone to take care of their taxes need to have a discussion with their accountant to take advantage of all the tax breaks and plan for next year.
