Help still needed for earthquake victims in Haiti

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We were warned the coverage of the Haitian earthquake disaster would probably slow down and so would donations.  Almost six months later, the Canadian Red Cross says help is still desperately needed.

Over 12,000 people in Haiti are still receiving food and every day necessities from the organization and a major push is now on to build shelter for the 1.2 million people displaced by the January earthquake.

Chiran Livera with the Canadian Red Cross just returned from Haiti a couple of days ago and has seen the appreciation on the faces of people the donations are helping.

He adds it’s really making a difference.  “We received a lot of money from generous Canadians already, from the government of Canada and provincial government.  But, we will continue to need more as we get into other programming like water sanitation and health programming.”
