Poll: We don’t know what we are eating

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They say you are what you eat but what are you eating?  A new survey that suggests we don’t know enough about what is in our food.

Even though recent studies have found 65 per cent of Canadians always read their food labels, research for Maple Leaf done by Leger Marketing says only 38 per cent of us recognize all the ingredients listed.

More than half also admit they can’t pronounce the names of the ingredients while only one in four insist on buying foods made from natural sources.

That’s why Maple Leaf is hoping to capitalize on the need for simpler foods by making sure its “Selections deli meats” have no more than nine easy-to-recognize ingredients.
