Chilliwack RCMP warning parents about “LG Parties”

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – RCMP say a trend first identified at Cloverdale’s Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary has popped up in Chilliwack as well.  RCMP are telling parents, especially parents of senior boys, to make it their business to know what their kids are up to.

Similar to the incident in Surrey, Chilliwack high school boys are using Facebook to set up what they call ‘LG Parties’.  In this case, the LG stands for “Little Girl”.  Police say the boys invite 12 and 13-year-old girls to come to the parties and ply them with booze in hopes it will lead to sexual acts.

Chilliwack RCMP Constable Tracy Wolbeck says this is just a warning specifically to the parents of  boys setting up the parties.  “Educate them on the age of consent, having some morals and sitting down and having that chat with them, especially with grad season coming up and more drinking and more parties.”

The message from the RCMP is for parents of girls as well, but Wolbeck says parents of boys need to realize having sex with girls that age is a crime.

RCMP have posted a list of tips for parents:

– If your kids are going to a party, call ahead to ensure parental supervision at the party.
– Don’t allow your kids to use the family computer in private.
– Be aware of their FaceBook contacts and the content of that contact.
– Educate kids on the risks involved in drinking under age and the lack of judgement that goes along with being intoxicated.
