Drop in Whatcom County home prices attracting people from B.C

BELLINGHAM (NEWS1130) – Another drop in housing prices in Whatcom County means more folks from the Lower Mainland are scooping up vacation or investment properties across the border.  One expert says the average price is down 7.5 per cent compared to this time last year.

Windermere Realtor Mike Kent, host of KGMI’s “Radio Real Estate” show, says the drop was the expected result of the US federal home-buyers tax credit which expired last month.  “The average price in Whatcom County right now is running around the $397,000 mark.”

Kent expects more Canadians to start looking once the dollar remains steady above 95 cents US.
He says many are looking at income opportunities by renting or flipping these homes–others taking quick vacations across the line.
