“Solidarity walk” for former Little Flower Academy teacher today

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Teachers, students and other community members will walk in solidarity with a former Little Flower Academy teacher today.  They say they’re walking away from homophobia, in support of Lisa Reimer this afternoon at 4 p.m.

Lisa Reimer went public with her story last month, accusing the board at Little Flower Academy of caving to public pressure to get rid of her. Reimer had told the school that she is a lesbian and recently welcomed a child with her partner.

David Butler with the Vancouver Elementary School Teachers’ Association says this is not meant to be a protest against the Catholic faith or the school. “There’s not going to be shouting. There’s not going to be…like hurling chants and things like that, because I don’t think it’s going to be very productive. What the message is that we support Lisa.”

The group will move from Granville and King Edward, a block away from Little Flower Academy, to a nearby public school. Student leaders are expected to say a few words as well.
