Whitecaps tie not enough to win Canadian Championship

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – For the second year in a row, the Vancouver Whitecaps quest for the Nutrilite Canadian Championship and a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League tournament have been shattered by the Montreal Impact.

Heading into Montreal in a must-win situation, it looked good for the Caps, with Ansu Toure’s first goal of the season, but midfielder Philippe Billy evened things up in the 62nd minute, as the Impact hung on for a 1-1 final.

Wednesday’s result at Montreal’s Stade Saputo meant that Toronto FC retained the Canadian Championship title they first won last year, and with a match to spare.

The Major League Soccer club will receive the Voyageurs Cup at Wednesday’s final game of the tournament, between TFC and the Whitecaps at Toronto’s BMO Field.
