TransLink tries to lure commuters to Golden Ears Bridge

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Sit and wait… or pay the toll.  Those are the choices for many people crossing the Fraser.

TransLink is trying to lure more people over the Golden Ears Bridge. The number of people crossing the new bridge is way down from projections and that means projected revenue is also down.

The Vancouver Sun reports TransLink is considering reducing the tolls and marketing the Golden Ears to lure more truckers and non-commuters.

TransLink’s Ken Hardie tells the paper they’re developing a business plan for the crossing that could include lowering tolls at certain times of the day, but it is still too early to say exactly when and how it would be done. TransLink blames the poor economy, worse-than-expected development around the bridge and a jump in transit ridership on the buses and the West Coast express.
