Montreal protest condemns police treatment at G20 summit

By

MONTREAL, Q.C. – About 1,000 protesters marched peacefully through the downtown streets to speak out against the way security was handled by police at Toronto’s G20 summit last weekend.

Many carried cans around their necks to collect money needed for legal fees for those still in custody in Toronto.

Others called on bystanders to join them, and handled out pamphlets to store owners, shoppers and diners relaxing on patios.

The march was organized by Montreal’s ‘Anti-Capitalist Convergence’, who said those from Quebec were unfairly targeted and mistreated during last weekend’s demonstrations.

They estimate that 200 to 250 people from the province were detained in Toronto, out of a total of approximately 900 taken into custody.
