VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson is apologizing for some less than dignified language caught on tape in council chambers last week. The comments came after a committee meeting.
Robertson was speaking with councillors Heather Deal and Tim Stevenson when he let loose with the un-parliamentary language. He can be heard saying, “Who are these “f**king…Who are these hacks, man? Are they NPA hacks?”
It came after several speakers wanted to determine who would sit on a West End Community Advisory Committee.
The video was posted on YouTube by the group West End Neighbours, who are opposed to a controversial rental housing program. The feed was posted to the city’s website and the offending bits were cut out, but not before others copied them.
In a statement released by the Mayor’s Office, Robertson apologizes. He says his comments were “inappropriate and disrespectful.”
He says he was frustrated after a long, contentious council meeting, but, “Either way, there is no excuse and I want to express my apologies to the people who came to speak at council.”
