Aquarium happy fate of whales won’t go to public vote

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Aquarium is applauding the Vancouver Park Board’s decision not to allow a public vote on whale and dolphins in captivity.

It says the decision reflects public sentiment, and stands by a 2006 community consultation it says garnered strong support for acquiring new whales and even a venue expansion.

Keeping whales and dolphins in captivity until its contract expires in 2015, it says, will help in its focus on conservation, education and research.
