When it comes to swearing, Canadians take the top spot

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadians may be polite and kind but apparently, we curse like sailors.

A new Angus Reid public opinion poll has found that 27 per cent of Canadians say they frequently hear friends use swear words during the course of the day. Canadians in the workplace hear the f-word on a regular basis, and 56 per cent of Canadians admit they often swear when talking to friends.

In contrast, fifty-one per cent of people in Britain swear in front of their pals. But when it comes to conversations with strangers, Brits are more exposed to foul language. In the office, Americans appear to be more reserved. Only 46 per cent of Americans swear in conversations with friends.

Overall, more than seventy per cent of respondents say it is inappropriate for politicians, lawyers, doctors, and police officers to swear, even when they are not aware that somebody else is listening.
