Abbotsford Police discover credit card fraud ring

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Abbotsford Police have made three arrests after discovering a credit card fraud ring.

Constable Ian MacDonald says the investigation began July 22nd when a security guard in town found a memory stick for a computer that had thousands of credit card numbers on it. “We’ve uncovered, I would say, in excess of 20,000 entries of credit card data that would easily translate into possibly a million dollars worth of fraud credit cards.”

Five days later, police found gear for making fake credit cards during a routine traffic stop and arrested two people. A second traffic stop on Sunday recovered even more equipment and another arrest was made.

MacDonald says the illegal activity might not be limited to Abbotsford.  “I think anybody would be naive to think that these operations are not taking place in other places in the Lower Mainland, or throughout the province. It’s too lucrative”
