One hundred years of fun at the PNE

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There have been 100 years of collective memories! News1130 is looking back on one century of fun and innovation at the PNE.

There aren’t many events in B.C. that connect generations like the P.N.E. The fair’s Laura Ballance says the PNE has a history of defining moments and a whole lot of firsts for Canada – some big, some less so. “The first lawnmower in Canada was shown at the PNE back in the 1930’s. The display was actually a guy walking back and forth along Renfrew Street cutting the grass.”

The Canadian debut of the rotary phone was at the PNE, so was the first airplane to be displayed in Canada. “We also have debuted some of the world’s greatest acts for this market, whether it was where Jimmy Durante first played, whether it was the historic Elvis concert or the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. More modern performers like Michael Buble were discovered as part of the PNE talent search.”

CKWX also has a long history with the PNE as well. News1130 is at the fair every day this year so come out and say hello to your favourite on-air personalities.
