City engineers trying to compromise on Hornby bike lane

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Complaints and praise about the proposed separated bike lane for Hornby Street in Vancouver have not been ignored. City engineers are going over feedback in hopes of finding a solution everyone can live with.

That’s according to Lon LaClaire with city engineering. “Lots of questions about the choice of Hornby, lots of questions about the impact on parking or loading and access to businesses, turn restrictions.”

He explains they’ve made contacts with the individual businesses along the corridor so engineers can follow up and try and work around specific issues. “Some people were specifically concerned about the type of bike facility or the connections we’re making, trying to better understand the choice of route.”

LaClaire says engineers are meeting one-on-one with business owners on that strip to find a way to accommodate drivers and cyclists. A more detailed plan is expected in late September or early October.
