Craigslist ad leads to Internet luring charges

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The VPD’s Vice Unit say it has caught another internet predator. The investigation began earlier this month when police noticed an ad on Craigslist, where a man was seeking to meet a school-aged girl for sex.

The VPD says an officer responded to that ad, posing as a 14-year-old girl. A meeting was arranged, and the suspect was arrested August 12.

Richard Christopher Garcia, 42, is charged with one count of ‘Communicating via a Computer to Lure a Child Under 14.’

Sgt. Tony Cavezza says he hopes this sends a message to internet predators.”It is a crack down. It is a main focus of what we do at the vice unit. Children are regarded as a very vulnerable segment of our communities,” he says.

The VPD is reminding parents that the Children of the Street Society launched a new campaign earlier this year aimed at child predators who solicit children online, called “Predator Watch.”
