Proposed housing project in Vancouver put on hold

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a major victory for the West End Residents Association which has been fighting a proposed affordable housing tower on Comox Street in Vancouver.

A statement from the Mayor Gregor Robertson’s office says the project will not move to public hearing.

Brent Granby with the association is thrilled.  “We think it’s significant. I think it’s bold on his part to put the project on hold.  We’ve always thought that there are ways to make the project better, to improve the affordability and the sustainability of the project.”

He hopes the project will better fit Vancouver’s green initiatives if it goes before city council again.  The city says it’s still committed to affordable housing projects.
