Transit Police Chief Officer Ward Clapham fired

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Policing on our transit system is not expected to change in any significant way despite the firing of the Transit Police Chief Officer Ward Clapham last night.

Clapham was dismissed following a decision by the Transit Police Board.

Bill Brown was one of the five people who made the decision yesterday. “It’s really an internal management decision. The concern at the time was that there was a philosophical difference.”

The board suggests Clapham wasn’t involved in anything illegal or inappropriate, but they are not disclosing any more details at this time.

In an email statement to News1130, Clapham said, “I take great pride in my 30-year career in policing in Canada, and in particular the leadership roles I have had in Metro Vancouver over the past 10 years. I joined the Transit Police two years ago and I am extremely proud of what my team accomplished in that time. I know I have done the right thing and represented the interests of the community. I am confident in the fullness of time this will be recognized.”
