Europe wins Ryder Cup

NEWPORT, WALES (NEWS1130) – The Europeans fended off a final day charge from the Americans to reclaim the Ryder Cup.

It came down to the final match at Celtic Manor in Wales, with the Americans staging a comeback — even tying things up.

Hunter Mahan had a chance to win the tournament for the U.S. but missed a putt, losing to U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and giving Europe their sixth Ryder Cup in the last eight years, 14 ½ to 13 ½.

Europe lost to the Americans two years ago at Valhalla.
