Whitecaps take game one

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 to take the first game of their two game total goal playoff series with the Timbers. Gershon Koffie scored in the first minute of the game to give the Caps a 1-0 lead.

Vancouver was then awarded a penalty shot in the 13th minute that captain Martin Nash barried to give the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead after the first half.

In the second half the Whitecaps continued their strong play on both sides of the ball not letting Portland get too many chances, but when they did keeper Jay Nolly came up big.

Bad news for the Whitecaps midfielder Wes Knight left the game in the second half on a stretcher with a shoulder injury and did not cme back.

The second game between the Caps and Timbers goes on Sunday in Portland.
