VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Anti-oil tanker activists are dying for their cause today, at least symbolically.
Ben West with the Western Canada Wilderness Committee says a dozen or so people doused in fake oil rose out of the water in English Bay and collapsed on the beach in a die-in.
He says they are opposed to oil tankers coming into Burrard Inlet. “We’re calling for a ban on oil tankers off the coast of British Columbia. I think most people, if they knew this was happening, would be totally outraged and quite concerned in light of things like the BP oil spill and other disasters around the world related to oil spills in the water.”
Next weekend, anti-oil tanker activists are organizing a protest concert off Second Beach.
