Dangers of Facebook on free WiFi

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You might want to think twice about logging onto Facebook with free WiFi.

A software developer is getting the word out about “Firesheep”. It’s a plug-in for Firefox and all it takes is patience and a couple of clicks for a hacker to access someone’s profile.

Eric Butler is a software developer in Seattle and says the Firesheep program sniffs out log-ons over unsecured networks and connects hackers with those accounts. Facebook says it is working on beefing up its encryption and continues to warn people about the risks of using the site over free WiFi.

Canada’s Privacy Commissioner says Firesheep is on their radar but there have been no public inquiries about the program.
