Link between strong sense of smell and obesity, new study says

A new study has suggested that there could be a link between a strong sense of smell and obesity.

The study of nearly 64 volunteers found that people who were overweight had a much higher sense of smell for food compared to slim people.

The University of Portsmouth researchers found their sense of smell was especially heightened after they had eaten compared to when they were hungry.

Lead author on the study, Dr. Lorenzo Stafford, said this stronger sense of smell might compel the individual to carry on eating, even when they are full.

This study could explain why some people struggle to stay slim, he added.

The study is in the journal of Chemical Senses.
