Hoping to avoid another Canada Line failure

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After the Canada Line’s big winter weather failure, the company that operates the line is looking ahead to the next big blast of snow and ice.

Those caught in the snow stalls yesterday were not happy with it. Talking to commuters this morning, many were fairly understanding, and see it as a once-off incident as crews work the kinks out.

Snow stalled trains on two sections of a $2 billion line between Richmond and Vancouver yesterday. It was an icy build-up on the power rails of the train. The folks at Canada Line say in the future, they will run de-icing trains around the clock, including during regular service.

The official word from Protrans, the company that runs the Canada Line, is this was an unusual combination of weather factors that stopped the two trains yesterday. They hope more frequent de-icing will prevent the icy surface disruptions from happening again.

Protrans says they’re working on solid solutions.
