Northwest Division showdown in Calgary

By

CALGARY, AB. (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks begin a short road trip tonight in Calgary against the Flames.  This is the first of six meetings between the two teams in the regular season.  The Canucks are coming off Friday’s 6-1 victory over San Jose while Calgary blanked the Minnesota Wild 3-0 on Monday night.

It could be a battle of the goalies.  Roberto Luongo is 3-0-1 in his last four starts against the Flames while Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff has been playing very well in recent games.  Kiprusoff has a goals against average of 1.73 in his last four starts.

Kevin Bieksa should be back in the Canucks line-up after missing time with a case of pneumonia.  Forward Manny Malhotra is also back after a brief bout of the flu.

The Canucks will have to keep an eye on Calgary Flames Captain Jarome Iginla.  After scoring just twice in his first 15 games, Iginla has scored eight goals in his last nine games and has 10 points in his last seven games.

Game time is 6:30 p.m.
