Canada to face the Swiss in World Junior Hockey Quarterfinal

By

BUFFALO, NY (NEWS 1130) – The playoffs begin today for Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship. Canada faces Switzerland in quarterfinal action this afternoon, after failing to earn a bye to the semis after losing to Sweden 6-5 in a shootout on New Years Eve.

Mark Visentin will get the start between the pipes for Canada. Visentin, who played in Canada’s 10-1 win over Norway, gets the start over Olivier Roy who struggled in Friday’s loss. The team will also get Zach Kassian back in their lineup. Kassian is back after serving a two-game suspension for a match penalty that he picked up in against the Czech Republic in the round-robin.

The winner of today’s game will face the US on Monday.

Canada has never lost to Switzerland in the tournament, going 18-0-0 all time versus the Swiss. In a pre-tournament game in Oshawa on December 20, Canada blasted Switzerland to the tune of 8-0.

Puck drop in today’s game is 12:30 p.m.
