Canadian national star to retire

OAKVILLE (NEWS1130) – Kara Lang is expected to announce her retirement from soccer Wednesday at the age of 24. Lang who played five seasons with the Vancouver Women Whitecaps has been one of Canada’s top players since she made her debut as a 15-year-old in 2002.

The Oakville, Ontario native scored 92 goals in 34 national team appearances. Lang has been battling knee injuries for the past few years, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament while playing collegiately at UCLA.

One of her career highlights was scoring the winning goal for Canada in a 2-1 victory over Argentina at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Canada would lose in the quarter-finals to the United States.
