VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks lost to the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 Saturday night at Rogers Arena.
The first period ended in a scoreless tie, though both teams traded quality chances. The second frame brought a different story. Defenceman Keith Ballard had the best chance early on dinging the puck off the post.
Daniel Sedin finally got the Canucks power play working. They were almost 0-for-3 with the extra man until he buried one from the hashmark. The goal was his 25th of the year.
Kevin Bieksa started the third period in the penalty box, serving a delay of game minor. It would be a costly penalty because Johan Franzen would tie things up just 42 second into the third frame.
The Canucks and Wings would end regulation tied at one a piece, and overtime would also solve nothing.
In the shootout Jiri Hudler scored the Wings’ lone goal, putting Detroit over the Canucks 2-1.
Next up are the lowly New York Islanders Tuesday on Long Island.
